Need single lithium cell charger recommendation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24040, BQ25896, BQ25895M

Support Path: /Product/Help with Device Selection/Power my design/

I'm currently using a low cast BQ24040 to charge a 250 mAh cell.

However Software wants the ability to read battery Voltage.

Can someone recommend a low cost option? I've used BQ25896 in a

different design but it's too expensive for this one.

  • Hey Tom,

Take a look at the bq25895M. Not sure what price range you are looking for, but I believe that is our lowest cost charger with an integrated ADC.

  • hello Joel,

Actually the BQ25895M unit cost on Digi-Key is $3.44,... kind of pricey,... but I found the BQ24259RGET (it's $2.52).
By the way, why is the input signal PSEL really needed? Is it important to distinguish between getting power from
    a USB host versus adapter?

    thx!

    Tom
  • Hey Tom,

The PSEL pin is for customers who do not need the USB port detection (included on parts with D+/D- detection).

Having this PSEL pin lets the customer, who may be using a USB PHY, select one of three input current limits.

Depending on your application, you may choose to not pair this with a USB PHY, and instead pull the pin HIGH or LOW to have an input current limit determined at startup. The three selectable input current limts are 100mA, 500mA, and 3A based on PSEL and OTG pins.
