TPS65381A-Q1: TPS65381A-Q1 WD_FAIL_CNT Re-Initialized

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65381-Q1

Hi, TI Expert.

We had designed the Automotive ECU with TPS65381A-Q1.

My coworker(SW Engineer) and me has some issue about TPS65381A-Q1 such as below.

Please check and reply.

1. Datasheet Rev.

   TPS65381-Q1 : Rev.date =  14. JUN 2017

   TPS65381A-Q1 : Rev.date = 01. MAY 2017

As I know, TPS65381-Q1 is NRND Part. But Datasheet Rev.date is higher than TPS65381A-Q1. Please update the finalized version for TPS65381A-Q1

2. WDT Issue

① When D[5] AUTO_BIST_DIS register set to 1, BIST is not running while below state. is it right?

   - ACTIVE STATE → SAFE_STATE → RESET_STATE → DIAGNOSTIC STATE

└ If BIST is not active this situation, Is not WD_FAIL_CNT Re-initialized to 5 ??

② Plese check the Re-Initialized condition for WD_FAIL_CNT to 5

  • Hello, thank you for posting your question on the TPS65381A-Q1 in the e2e forum. Your thread has been assigned to the expert within TI, who will reply to your question as soon as possible and attempt to resolve your issue.
  • Hello,

The TPS65381-Q1 has the latest revision datasheet Rev G which was released in June 2017 and TPS65381A-Q1 has a datasheet Rev A released in May 2017. These are equivalent to each other, the TPS65381-Q1 Rev G takes slightly longer to publish to the web since it is for a released device and went through change management control with added some time and the additional month in the revision date.

If you are using the TPS65381A-Q1, you should only refer to the TPS65381A-Q1 datasheet going forward.

If AUTO_BIST_DIS bit is set to 1 then BIST will not run on any transition through RESET to DIAGNOSTIC state, except for power up from STANDBY. So, yes in your scenario if AUTO_BIST_DIS was set to 1 while in DIAGNOSTICS and an event causes ACTIVE STATE → SAFE_STATE → RESET_STATE → DIAGNOSTIC STATE, BIST will not run and the WD_FAIL_CNT will not be re-initialized after that transition state since BIST is not run.

Careful system impact consideration should be taken before choosing to use the AUTO_BIST_DIS was set to 1.

    Best Regards,
    Scott
  • Thank you very much Scott, This reply very helpful for us.
