WEBENCH® Tools/BQ28Z610EVM-532: Can't generate golden file with EV2300

Part Number: BQ28Z610EVM-532
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ28Z610, BQ35100

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

I have been struggling for two week to connect my bq28z610  to my computer using EV2300.

I think my problem comes from my 64bit windows.

As a matter of fact I just need the golden file. My batterie are two Alkaline Energizer, which correspond to Chemistry ID 0x0600.

Can anyone provide me a golden file for the bq28z610 and this kind of batterie?

Thanks by advance.

Regards,

Arthur

  • hi Arthur,
The bq28z610 is not designed to be used with alkaline non-rechargeable batteries. VC1 and VC2 each need to see a minimum of about 2.2V for the IC to be functional for a 2 s configuration.

Are you able to communicate with the EVM atleast when powered with a power supply? Make sure to wake the device up from shut down by pressing the wake up switch button. Pls reveiw the user guide of device and search for this video: How to use the bq28z610 EVM on ti.com

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

    thanks for your answer.

I am able to communicate with the device with my own hardware using I2C, but not using the EV2300, even with an other power supply.

I need a coulomb meter for two alkaline cells. Is there a suitable TI gauge ?

  • I'm powering the gauge with two alkaline cells, and I am able to communicate with it using my own hardware.
Are you sure 2.2v is not the minimum for the sum of the cells ?

    Arthur
  • 2.2V is the minimum for VC2 which is the power to the IC. Since you say you can communicate with the device , then it means you are not able to use the ev2300 because it doesn't have internal pull-ups for the i2c lines. you will need to place jumpers on p2 and p3 connectors which will enable the onboard pull-ups and that will allow the ev2300 to work.

I would suggest the bq35100 for use with the alkaline cells. you will need to use it in accumulator mode. I believe that is a better fit for coulomb counting, rather than the bq28z610.

    thanks
