Bq35100: Parallel battery application

Part Number: BQ35100

Hi Team,

We are using two LiSOCl2 batteries in parallel. There are some questions, please help.

1. The battery is connected in parallel, but can turn on system when only have one battery.

Would this have any effect on capacity estimation when insert the second battery? How to adjust the capacity?

2. How could I configure the battery max capacity and voltage? (The battery is 1440mAh/3V)

From Tabel-1 of datasheet, The register 0x3C...0x3D is read-only.

Is this a right register to configure design-capacity and design-voltage?

(From Table 13-1 of BQ35100 Technical Reference Manual.)

3. Do I only need to do factory calibration while hardware layout change?

4. What is default mode in BQ35100?

(From Technical Reference Manual)

Thanks

  • Most folks are out for the July 4th Holidays. We should get back to you after the break.
  • Dear Onyx,

    Please kindly help.
Since we need to know is BQ35100 can work or not.
And the capacity estimation accuracy when we only insert one battery.

    Thanks
  • Daniel,
I don't believe it is possible to connect two thionyl batteries and then use only one with the gauge. this is because the gauge has to measure the rate of change of the resistance of the battery, and alternating between one and then two batteries in parallel will throw off the measurement.

Desgin voltage and design capacity is where you program the max voltage and capacity.
Voltage, current and termperate measurements needs to be calibrated. Pls refer to the TRM and EVM user guide of the device for proper usuage. The device comes in an unsealed and full access state.
    thanks
    Onyx
