BQ27742-G1: Full Charge capacity incorrect after updating golden image

Part Number: BQ27742-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27742EVM

Hi,

I have performed a learning cycle with TI gauge BQ27742-G1 in the evaluation board BQ27742EVM and a pair of 18650-25R cells, each with a capacity of 2500 mAh. After the learning cycle was successfully performed, the Full Available capacity was updated to 5150 mAh and the Full Charge capacity was updated to 4870 mAh. The Golden image was also created with three files viz. .srec, .bq.fs, .df.fs. However, after programming the generated golden image in another fuel gauge mounted on a different device, the Full Charge capacity updated is only 4260 mAh. The Full Available capacity updated with the correct value though. I was programming the .bq.fs file into my device using the programming tool provided in Battery Management Studio 1.3.54.

Please help me to understand as to why the Full Charge Capacity updated with the incorrect value. What should I do to avoid this?

Thanks.

  • Hi Bhargav,
I wouldn't be worried about that. once the device is in use, FCC will adjust to the correct value. The gauge uses the average I last stored in data flash to estimate the FCC of a new pack that you haven't cycled. If your average I last run was a large current or Power, then your FCC would be of less value. You can change your average I last run to a smaller current value in your srec or .fs files so when you do that initial programming you wouldnt have a low FCC.
    thanks
    Onyx
