BQ24616: Absmax value of HIDRV Pin

Hi Team,

I have a customer using the bq24616. During the switching of the FET on the HIDRV pin, they notice negative voltage spikes of upto -1.4V. The datasheet specifies that the HIDRV pin has a voltage AbsMax of -0.3V. Is this correct or is the HIDRV pin rated to -2V?

I'm assuming that the -0.3V vlaue is a continuous voltage and higher transients can be handled by the pin. Is this correct? Are there any limits to the transients?

I also measured -1.5V on HIDRV pin, bq24616 EVM. It may because of the oscilloscope coupling, GND connection, layout...etc.. Do this negative voltage cause any damage in your design?

Hi Ann,

I don't think the negative voltage will damage any external components, since the HIDRV is attached to the Gate of a FET. The question is whether this -1.5V will damage the bq24616?

Hi Mihir,

Since I also measured the negative voltage on EVM, I think it is not a big problem for bq24616. Maybe the negative is generated by oscilloscope coupling, it is not the real voltage or just a transient voltage on HIDRV pin. It could be okay for bq24616.
