TPS40140: As 4 Phase Current source

Part Number: TPS40140

Hello Team,

Could you please answer the question from my customer.

Question 1: Can we evaluate the ILIM signal as voltage slave? I would need it, but see the manual on page 56, Figure 64, however, that ILIM1 is placed on Gnd. This means that would immediately lead to an error with COMP> 0 if the overcurrent detection is active?

Question 2: Can I leave the HDRV connection unconnected, for example, using external gate drivers to achieve higher output voltages than 40V (considering other signals)?

Which fault conditions are still being monitored by the TPS40140?
ILIM is deactivated, but shorts in H_ or L-side FETs are apparently detected during simulation.

Looking forward for your feedback.

Thank you.

Best,

Needhu

  • Hi Needhu,

    What's your application, Vin/Vout/Iout?

Question 1: In multiphase configuration, TPS40140 compares the "COMP voltage" with "ILIM voltage of master channel" for OC protection. The ILIM pin of slave channels can be conncected to ground.

Question 2: To use external gate driver, connect SW pin to ground and use HDRV as the input signal of gate driver. Leave LDRV floating.

    Thanks
