TPS23861: does TPS23861 support only 802.3af standard in Automatic Mode?

Part Number: TPS23861

Hi,

1. does TPS23861 support midspan application?

2. if customer only needs one port, how to set the other three ports?

3.customer only need 802.3af standard in Automatic Mode? does TPS23861 support? customer doesn't want to use MCU because of cost.

4. if TPS23861 can't support in Automatic Mode, can it support in Semi-Automatic Mode – Set by I2C Command?

  • Hey Max,

    1. Yes, the TPS23861 can be used in a mid-span application. However, the TPS23861 can only support Alt A.

    2. See the image below from page 87 of the TPS23861 datasheet for how to connect unused ports.

    3. TPS23861 will support 802.3af in automatic mode. However, the TPS23861 cannot limit the port power to only Type 1 operation without I2C signals. For instance, if a Type 2 PD is connected to the TPS23861, does your customer want the PSE to limit to Type 1 operation only? If so, I2C signals will be needed.

    Thanks,
