EMB1428Q: How the part decided the direction of energy transfer

Part Number: EMB1428Q

Hi,

Based on table 2, "Switch Settings for Each Command" the 4bits command to the part only tell the part how to set the cell switch and polarity switch, as well as the normal or test mode. Does not include any information about direction. The question is how the part decided the polarity of DIR? And what the "Test Mode" means?

Thank you,

John

  • Hi John,
Notice that table 2 has 2 sets of selection for each cell, direction is determined by which set is used. Below the flowchart on page 18, item 6 indicates DIR is set as the complement of the bit cmd[3]. So to set DIR high send command 0b0XXX, to set DIR low send command 0b1XXX.
Test mode does not have a functional description or use in system. It will open all switches as shown in table 2, but is not shutdown mode.

(original post incorrectly showed hex format, corrected)

  • Understand now. Thank you.
I think it should be explicitly explained in table 2. Otherwise the table seems very confusable.
A further question: how should i correspond the bit CSW[7:0], PSW[3:0] to signal SOURCE[0:11]/GATE[0:11]?
I am really frustrated by this datasheet. Maybe my IQ is too low to read it? :(
    Regards,
    John
  • Hi John,
Apparently the focus of table 2 was to specifiy the switch conditions rather than the whole condition of the part. I think you are doing fine. The data sheet seems written as a process description view rather than a reference summary. It is as though the author wanted us to read the entire data sheet and understand the part before using it.
