LM5060: Current Limit Function

Hi Team,

I would like to ask about the following red part "Current Limit Function Enabled: Startup Only".
Does it mean current limit is enabled only during startup?

  • HI Yaita-san,

This means that the inrush current value can be controlled only during startup (also called dv/dt control and/or soft start control). To control the inrush current, please place a capacitor from the GATE pin to GND (page 19-20 on datasheet).

I would like to advise that the LM5060 does NOT have short circuit protection and does NOT have a true current limit. Meaning, the gate will not regulate if the current goes above the set current limit. When the current goes above the current limit setting, the fault timer begins to run.

For complete protection (short-circuit and current limit regulation), I would recommend the LM5069. I hope this helps :-)

    Best Regards,

    Aramis P. Alvarez
