TPS563201: Could you tell me about TPS563201's OVP function ?

Part Number: TPS563201

Hi, team.

I received the following question from the customer.

Could you help me?

<Question>
Does OVP work similar to OCL (like UVP)?
※It is understanding that UVLO and TSD control are both shut off and not latched.

Thank you.
Masumi Sekiguchi

  • Hi Masumi,

During OV, TPS563201 will keep low side FET on until OV removed. The low side FET and high side FET will be off both when inductor current drop to zero. If OV is a long termed at output, the low side FET will first on and then inductor current drop to zero to let low side and high side FET off. There will be switching only when OV removed after.

    Best,

    Anthony

  • Thank you very much for Anthony-san.

In other words, with OVP and UVP's control (way to release protected state) will be different.

    Is my understand correct?

    ※Write my understanding below

(I'd like to explain to customer, so please confirm.)

OVP: OVP detection → Low side FET ON → Inductor current is 0 mA → High / Low Side FET OFF → OVP release (steady operation)
UVP: UVP detection ⇒ IC shutdown ⇒ 15 msec @ TYP restart ⇒ UVP release (steady operation)

    Best regards,

    Masumi Sekiguchi

  • Hi Masumi,

I think your understanding is correct.

    Best,
    Anthony
