BQ24773EVM-540: Battery level feedback?

Part Number: BQ24773EVM-540
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24773, BQ25700A, BQ25703A

Hi guys.

I am currently playing around with the BQ24773 EVM board, trying to decide on a product to incorporate in my final product.

I am looking for a circuit that allows me to charge a 3S2P Li-ion battery in-circuit, while having some sort of feedback like "Charging", "Full" etc. that can preferably be pulled through I2C/SMbus.

Is this possible with the EVM board i am currently in possession of? And also, if i wanted to expand my requirements to be able to pull some sort of battery percentage, would this be possible? if not, which IC would i have to go with, keeping in mind that price is key?

Thank you very much,

Mathias

  • bq24773 is a host control charger. So, it doesn't report battery state of charge. Two options:
    1. You can post your question to gas gauge forum to find a right gas gauge part for your application.

    2. Our new NVDC charger bq25700A and bq25703A can report "fast charge" in charge status register. But, it cannot report charge in CV or battery is fully charged. But, you can use ADC function to read out the charging current and charge voltage. And then, you may expand my requirements to be able to pull some sort of battery percentage. But, I would think the gas gauge part accuracy should be much better.
