WEBENCH® Tools/LM3478: No suitable FET...

Part Number: LM3478

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

I have been designing a flyback boost converter using the LM3478 to power Nixie tubes from a 5V source. So Vin=5V, Vout=180V, Iout~15mA. I was using LTSpice to simulate the circuit which uses a Wurth Flex transformer, but have no way of calculating the compensation RC values. However I thought I would try WEBench. It does come up with designs that use a transformer that I can tweak to match the transformers I have, but it won't list the LM3478 as a possibilty because 'Can't find suitable fet for the design. Try reducing output current'. This seems to be a common problem with WEBench. It suggests that I lower the output current. I tried lowering the output current to 0.1mA, just to see if I could get it to include the part, but it doesn't work. Is the message actually correct, or is it just that it can't use the LM3478 in a circuit that requires a transformer?

If WEBench could do the whole design, that would be great, but I would be happy if I could use the compensation RC values from the designs that it does come up with. Could I do that?

Thanks - Paul
