bq2060A: Bq2060a CVOV bit set all the time

i am using Bq2060A fuel gauge for my battery pack and the bit CVOV is set. this bit is latched and i can not clear it with partial reset. i do not want to do full reset and go through learning cycle again. how can clear this bit? the cell voltages loo normal, see picture below.

Hi Mostafa,
You do not have to go through the learning cycle if a hard reset is issued. pls see the user guide of the device. You can extract your eeprom data and write that data back to the gauge.

here is what the data sheet says when you reset the device.
Device Reset
The bq2060A can be reset when power is applied or by commands over the HDQ16 or SMBus. On reset, the
bq2060A initializes its internal registers with the information contained in the configuration EEPROM. The
following command sequence initiates a full bq2060A reset:
Write 0xff5a to address 0x4f
Write 0x0000 to address 0x7d
Write 0x0080 to address 0x7d
A partial reset of the bq2060A occurs if step 1 is omitted and all check-byte values previously loaded into RAM
are still correct. All initial RAM values are read from EEPROM for both full and partial resets. A full reset
initializes MaxError = 100%, sets RELEARN_FLAG (bit 7) = 1 in Battery Mode, and initializes RM from EE
0x2c–2d (should be zero for rechargeable batteries). A partial reset leaves MaxError, RELEARN_FLAG, and RM
unchanged. The bq2060A delays reading the EEPROM for 700 ms after all resets to allow settling time for VCC.

please let me know how to do a hard reset without changing the MaxError and going through learling cycle.

How can i clear CVOV bit? the cell voltages are within spec, the overall voltage is within spec, and this bit would not clear no matter what i do.

Even a full reset will not clear this bit.

Mostafa,

Did you clear the overvoltage condition which caused the CVOV flag to get set in the first place?

Hi Onyx,

the overvoltage is within the spec, and the cell voltages are also within spec. also the temperature is at 22 Degrees.

this bit supposes to clear itself when voltage drops below the threshold and it is not cleared. it is always set.

Yes, that is the case.. The bit is supposed to clear automatically. I will put you in touch with the device specialist so they can look into this issue indepth.

Hi Mostafa,

I delivered on my promise. You likely didn't check your email. I sent you a friend invite several days ago with my personal email in the friend invite. You are yet to accept the friend invite neither did i get an email from you as instructed in the invite..
