TPS25942A: The difference between DMODE (Diode Mode) and reverse current blocking

Dear sir,

In my opinion, the behavior of DMODE is similar to reverse current blocking. But the reverse blocking protection is always ON, regardless of whether DMODE is activated or not.

Could you help clarify the difference between the two? Thanks for your support!

Hi Sam Ting,

Reverse current blocking protection is always ON, in normal operation as well as in DMODE operation.

In DMODE (non-ideal diode mode) operation, the device uses MOSFET body diode for power path. In general, non-ideal diode mode is not recommended to operate for long intervals. It may raise long term life issues. This option is specially provided/designed to support fast switch over for power muxing applications.

Can you let me know the system requirements and application use case. why reverse current blocking is needed in your system? what is the end equipment?

The application is Type C PD. There are two output voltage options, 5V & 12V which are from individual POLs.
Yes, the RCB function is needed since the outputs through the power mux are connected together.
