WEBENCH® Tools/LM5576: Webench inverting buck boost option

Part Number: LM5576
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5160

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello team,

there is an option of Inverting Buck boost on LM5576 Webench, however I cannot simulate it. do you know why?

Also, do you have a plan to add inverting buck boost option to LM5160?

Best regards,
Taketo Sato

  • Sato-san,

The electrical simulation model integrated into WEBENCH, is an older version that only supports non inverting buck configuration. Hence the electrical simulation is not enabled inside WEBENCH for the inverting configuration.

However we recently made an update to the standalone model to enable inverting buck boost configuration. You can find this standalone PSpice model here: www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware.

Also, you can find some more information about support for Inverting Buck Boost electrical sims here: e2e.ti.com/.../3367.ground-nodes-in-ti-models.

As far as I know no plans to add any more functionality to LM5160 WEBENCH at this time. There is a Reference design for this that you may be able to refer to: www.ti.com/.../PMP10571 inverting&tisearch=Search-EN-Everything
  • Hello Nikhil-san,

I understand there is no plan to add inverting option regarding LM5160, as of today.
Regarding LM5576, I understand simulation model in Webench is old and it doesnt support inverting buck boost simulation. However we can sellect inverting buck boost in production option box. Does this mean we can simulate inverting buck boost in Webench in some future?

    Best regards,
    Taketo Sato
  • Hi Sato-san,

The inverting buck-boost panel for LM5576 WEBENCH should only be for Design Creation. Electrical simulation is not planned for this inside WEBENCH at this time (we will fix the panel so as to not show "Simulate Now" button). If you need to evaluate this using electrical simulations, my recommendation would be to still use WEBENCH for design creation and then simulate the same design in Standalone PSpice (by making manual changes to the PSpice schematic to match the WEBENCH design).

I hope that clarifies the situation.
