BQ24171: One question about BQ24171

Part Number: BQ24171

Hi All,

My customer is using BQ24171 but found a question. The schematics is showed as below. When the charger is working at charging station and we turn on the Q17, then the voltage on ISET pin will be changed. But we found that the charger will stop charging. it will be back to charge by the new charging current. But we want to how long it will be delay after the ISET voltage changed and before re-charging again. thanks.

BR,

Eric Jin

  • Hi Eric,

Can they get a scope shot of the ISET voltage and the VFB voltage? It may be going below 50mV on ISET for a moment, or VFB may be spiking above 2.1V, which could trigger Charge Disable or Charge Complete respectively.

    Regards,
    Steven

  • Hi Steven,

Thanks for your reply. We have double checked that the voltage on ISET didn't go below 50mV. When Q17 is turned on, the ISET voltage is 0.15V. and when Q17 is turned off, then ISET voltage is 0.388V.

I'm just confused that the charger can be disable when ISET voltage is changing between 0.15V and 0.388V. I think the charger will continue to work when ISET voltage changes in the range of 0.12v~0.8V.

  • Hi Eric,

I tested this on the bench with the EVM, there is no delay between changing ISET voltage from 0.4V to 0.1V and back up to 0.4V. The transition between the two charging current settings is seamless.

Check all of the conditions on page 18 of the datasheet which can stop and restart charging.

    Regards,
    Steven
