General question: Which is more noisy: Buck or boost?

I have a general question, which is more noisy, buck or boost converter?

My understanding is the Buck converter has a ON-OFF input current so Buck can be more noisy compared to Boost converter. Is this correct?

Thank you.

  • It depends on what you mean by noisy. Yes, the input current to a buck is discontinuous, but the output current is continuous. The opposite is true of a boost.

What input voltage, output voltage, and output current do you need? This determines whether you need a buck or boost.
