TPS51216: FBVDDQ questions

Part Number: TPS51216


Hello,

             Customer use TPS51216  and condition as below. If Imax is 32.2A, TDC is 19.8A, has any risk for it? Another question, Has any recommend value for OCP? Customer setting 63A now. Thank you.  

Imax=32.2

Rds(on)=1.8m

Rtrip=90.72

OCP=63A

    Hi Patrick,

    As long as the power FETs can handle the thermal, we don't see problem with 32.2A Imax and 19.8A ITDC. We recommend to set OCP level 1.3~1.5x Imax. In this case, 45A should be a reasonable OCP current number.

                 Could I know TPS51216 only need go local sense is enough? Is 100ohm ok for local sense resistor or other suggested value?

                 Does PC11002 need to mount on board? What is the function of this cap? Thank you.

    Hi Patrick,

    For VDDQ, local sense is nice to have but not absolutely required. Usually you can just terminate the remote sense at the load side. 100 ohm for local sense is ok. Usually the remote sense resistor should be 0 ohm unless customer wants to have balance between two sense lines. PC11002 is not needed but can be reserved in case there is noise coupling to the sense line.

    Thanks for your reply. So you mean remote sense is usually used than local sense, right? Per this case , can we use local sense or remote sense better? Thank you.

    Hi Patrick,

    Remote sense usually terminate at load, it will be more accurate for Vout control. Local sense usually terminate directly at converter output. Most of case remote sense works better.
