Sealing the device prevents data flash from being read, so this is normal.  If you give me your e-mail address,  I can send you the unseal codes.  We prefer to keep these codes private, even though we recommend that manufacturers change the codes.

Could you help me? I have same problem. I am working bq20z75.

My device bq20z75 is SEALED MODE. This FAS and SS of  Operation Staus register are setting.

I followed the instructions from the PDF. I send some command UNSEALED MODE and FULL Access MODE.

It is staying in SEALED MODE.  I isn´t  reading its register bz20z75. 

Inform the next Error Message below:

"SMB Read Block Error "

"Error Code SMB Terminated VB_T2H_UNKNOWN"

Yes i know the procedure discribed their, i read all the documentation. The problem is that  i am unable to read The SMB Command 60 becouse my IC is in sealed mode. 

This command is only available in full acces mode.

I need the default unseal code and full access mode  for my particular device (BQ20Z70).

Hello,

You're correct; if the pack is sealed you cannot read any data flash parameters (including the unseal keys).

However, if you did not change the code from default, then you do not need to read the data flash (as the default code is provided to you in the documentation).
This is the same code for all of the bq20zXX products.  Note there are 2 levels of unsealing: unsealed and full access modes.

If you did happen change the code from default, then you will need that code to unlock. If you don't have it, then you should start over with new IC.

I am suffering with bq20z95.

I am having similar issues with my bq27510-G1. The reported f/w version value is 0x0112 and h/w version is 0x00B4.

I managed to seal the device by writing 0x0020 to the Control() register. This is confirmed when I write 0x0000 to the Control() register, and get 0x0060 when I read back the Control() register.

From the documentation, this indicates that the SS and FAS bits are active; thus, the device is sealed.

To unseal the device, I have tried to enter both the default unseal and full access keys as stated in the user manual. However, the device remains sealed. I have never changed the default keys. I am writing (without revealing the default keys to the forum) the following to the Control() register:

0x00HH (low-byte of key 0)

0x00HH (high-byte of key 0)

0x00HH (low-byte of key 1)

0x00HH (high-byte of key 1)

Instead, should I write the keys in two writes:

0xHHHH (key 0 in little-endian order)

0xHHHH (key 1 in little-endian order)

Is this correct? Do you have any advice?

I am not using the EVM software. Should I try this? I am merely using my Atmel MCU to talk to the chip. I'm confident the write and read I2C functions are working. I had been able to access change data flash values before sealing the device.

bq20z955 is a custom part. If you are the pack maker, please send us a private message and let us know which company you are with. If you are the end customer, you will have to contact the pack maker because the default codes are probably changed now.

Your gauge is sealed. You will need to send the unseal keys to Manufacturer Access to read extended SBS commands and data flash.

The bq8030 isn't a typical gas gauge part. It's more like a generic microcontroller platform where the battery pack maker develops their own custom firmware. TI has no knowledge or control over the pack's unseal keys.

Your only choice would be to contact the battery pack manufacturer to see if they'll give you the unseal key (if their firmware has provisions for such).

did you follow slua421 , which also shows default keys , as guided above. Is this a pack you developed. Ifpack manufacturer has changed the keys from the default then you will not be able to unseal without the new key values

Note - Commands 0x60 and 0x61 are for changing the keys and only work if the pack is already unsealed,

You need to first enter the current keys per figures 26 and 28 in slua 421 to unseal and get full access

Figures 22 and 23 show reading current keys if pack is already unsealed using 0x60 and 0x61. You can use these commands with a write to change them  also if pack is unsealed and full access.

Hi Sergey, welcome to the forums.

If the default unseal keys do not work, we cannot help you any further. The manufacturer probably has already changed the keys, and we do not know if the gauge in the battery pack is a TI chip or not.
