I created an image file from a board that has its registers configured for my 2-series lithium-ion design.
Using that image file and the "Programming" tab of Battery Management Studio, I attempted to program a new board that had not yet been configured.
After the programming completed without any error prompts I am no longer able to communicate with the chip.

I was able to locate firmware for the bq34110 here ().

What documentation is available for reprogramming a unresponsive gas gauge to factory defaults?

You need to follow the same procedure when programming the firmware you extracted for programming the default srec. After programming make sure to click the execute button to get the device out of ROM mode into firmware mode.

If I failed to click "execute" after reprogramming, what options do I have for device recovery?
Are there any known issues using the EV2300 and the bq34110?

clicking the execute will put it back in firmware mode. If you don't click it will remain in ROM mode until you click it.

there are no known issues with the bq34110. For the ev2300, what firwmare version on it are you using. Programming an IC using earlier firwmare versions of the ev2300 has been known to brick the gauge. Make sure you are using firmware v 3.1m or 3.1r

My EV2300 has 3.1.c. I believe I have read that in order to update firmware on the EV2300 I need two of them connected together. Is that correct?
I have found this related thread: e2e.ti.com/.../1961671.
Where do I find the most up-to-date EV2300 firmware?
I only see Windows drivers at http://www.ti.com/tool/ev2300.

Yes for sure that is what bricked your iC. i.e programming with version 3.1c, i have sen that happen many times. You will need two ev2300 to update the device and although the link to the e2e post with the ev2300 isn't opening, i believe that is the most up to date version.

For your bricked device, unfortunately, you have to replace the IC.

Final question of this thread, I think.
Is the corruption on the read or the write?
In other words can I use the image I read from the v3.1.c EV2300 and program it with an EV2400 or a reprogrammed EV2300?

I just received an up-to-date EV2400 so that's what I will be using going forward, but it would have been helpful to find this information in an errata for the EV2300.

I really don't know where the corruption is . But no, I don't believe you can use the image read with the 3.1c. You could try if you have a few bq34110 ics with you in case the unit being programmed gets bricked again. I think the corruption is in the read because i have had other customers report similar issue as you did and they sent me their srec. When i programmed their srec on my EVM, it ended up getting bricked as well even though I was using an ev2400.
