EM1402EVM: Some debugging questions about EM1402EVM

Part Number: EM1402EVM

Hi,

I got some problems during EM1402EVM debug.

1. Both 1499 and 1428 have fault descriptions, what's the difference between them?  Please note that in last line of table 3, FALUT[3:0]=1010 indicates no fault, why is FAULT_INT still triggered?

2. Charge the first cell in top 1428, send 0x10 to 1499 and received 0xA1, the voltage on gate of top 1428 connected to MINUS_TOP cell switch (MOS) is 5V, but the voltage on cell switch (MOS) gate of PLUS_TOP is 0.5V. So 1428 has no action for this, why it's inactive even if the fault condition exist? Which fault condition is this? and how to solve this issue? since we can't find the related solution in the datasheet.

thanks!

Best regards.

  • Hi Leo,
The EMB1428 takes action from the timing and formats the fault codes from the EMB1499.
    1. The EMB1428 fault description indicates the corresponding EMB1499 fault code is output. I don't know why the table 3 shows 1010 as No fault, the EMB1499 describes the 010 as a secondary side current limit fault.
    2. I don't follow the condition you describe. 0xA1 would indicate the secondary side current limit fault with FAULT_INT triggered by that device and all drivers shut off. Note that the EMB1499 is shared between the EMB1428's, it is important that the other EMB1428's be idle during the transaction on the top part. It will be helpful to look at the voltages on each input, the commands sent to each device and the gate voltages during the command. The gate voltages will be dynamic, at least if the fault occurs.
