TPS54200: Maximum PWM dimming frequency

Part Number: TPS54200

Hi team,

My customer would like to use TPS54200 to drive a LED for medical application. They prefer to use PWM dimming and would like to drive the PWM dimming frequency up to 10KHz.

The datasheet recommended max PWM dimming frequency up to 1KHz. Could the control loop of TPS54200 handle up to 10KHz PWM dimming frequency, and what will be the performance issue if we do this? Do we also need to set the RC filter pole at FB pin to around 30 ~ 40KHz?

Understand that due to the rise and fall time of the output voltage, the linearity of the PWM dimming vs output current will be affected.

  • Hi Sai,

If TPS54200 use the 10khz to do PWM frequency dimming, if will impact the PWM dimming accuracy. It depends on the min on time and min off time.

The RC filter pole is must to have.

Coud you try it in the EVM? If the customer can accept the result, then you do this way.

    Thanks!

    Summer
