Load sharing for varying currents.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC39002

Hi. I am seeking help regarding the idea of combining power of 2 sources.

One of the options to do so is using load sharing circuitry.

The problem is that the power sources would be wind and solar, so currents fed to load would change, and would not be the same.

1. Is it true that with load sharing ICs it can not be done.

2. Should I better try some power combining circuits?I have not yet find an application note from Texas Instruments which offers this. All I have seen are numerous scientific articles about power adding from multiple sources, but no real life applications or examples.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Karlis,

TI have a load sharing IC the UCC39002 but its is designed to balance the load between multiple switched mode power supplies. I would expect that the system you are considering would need something with more flexibility. I would suggest considering a micro-controller or DSP based controller like C2000 which could be programmed to manage a number of different scenarios.
