BQ24296M: BQ24296M pin19 SW EOS

Part Number: BQ24296M

Dear Tier :

Vbus has a big surge current to make BQ24296M damage.
My customer would like to know how much surge current to make BQ24296M EOS damage ?   5A ?? 15A ???

  • Hello,

I will have to talk with our team to see what surge current the part can handle. Typically with such large surge currents, we will look at is the resulting voltage spike after the surge is gone. This is more critical to device in terms of EOS. According to the datasheet, VBUS can handle up to 15V maximum.

One other thing to mention is that the charger has an internal soft-start when turning on the buck converter.

Also, the depending on the duration of this surge and the power loss/temperature increase the device sustains during that time, there could be damage to the device. Again, according to the datasheet, the device can operate up to 150C. There are also limitation on how much power the charger can sustain.

Under what scenario are you imagining a surge current through the charger?
