TPS2660: UL certification of overcurrent protection

Part Number: TPS2660

Hello,

we plan to use the TPS2660 in a medical application. To do so we need to have UL certification not only for the materials of the device but also for the overcurrent protection feature. And it has to be fail safe. That means if the part fails it has to become open and isolate the load and never short. The TPS2660 has some UL certification but unfortunately it is not clear to me, what is certified. The part holds internal NFets and to my knowledge these parts can also fail by shortcut in between drain and source. But to be fail safe it has to be open in whatever case.

- Is the TPS2660 fail safe? How it is implemented?

- How is the UL conform test procedure for the overcurrent protection feature?

We need this information for our line of arguement when getting approval from certified body.

Thanks in advance

Lothar
