UCC2818A: About the K value

Part Number: UCC2818A

Hello.
I have a question about UCC 2818A.

Q1
Kis the multiplier gain constant.
What does K = 1 / V mean?
Q2
datasheet P15
I think that Figure 5 is the value of each part of the circuit at K = 1.
When considering K = 1.5, which part of the circuit should be changed?

Thank you.Microsoft PowerPoint - UCC2818A.pdf

  • Hello Masazumi,
The multiplier input is in units of (Volts)*(Amps)/(Volts squared) = Amps/Volts
    The output is in Amps.
So the gain is in units of ( Amps)/(Amps/Volts)
I think the gain constant should actually be in units of Volts and not in units of 1/Volts.
I don't understand your second question. Because the pfc is a closed loop system the multiplier output sets the power demand to the system.
This means that if the multiplier output tends to increase due to a higher gain, the output voltage tends to increase which in turn will lower the output of the error amplifier. So the input to the multiplier will decrease which tends to decrease the multiplier output. This in turn brings the output voltage back into regulation. There should be no need to change the circuit if the multiplier gain changes
    Regards
    John
  • Hello

    I have a question again.

    datasheet P7
    Gain constant (K) 0.5(min) 1(typ) 1.5(MAX)

How is this value tested at the time of shipment?
We want to measure how much actual K value fluctuation is and reflect it on the design.
Therefore, I would like to make the measurement method the same way.
Also, will you have distribution data on how much the K value actually fluctuates?
We are struggling to design due to variation of K value.

    thank you.
