CSD19536KTT: CSD19536KTT / How to calculate power dissipation and Tj

Part Number: CSD19536KTT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5060

Hi,

Now my customer plan to use CSD19536KTT with LM5060 and now they are asking how to calculate power dissipation and Tj due to inrush current during turn on. They will plan to measure case temperature and use RθJC to calculate Tj. It will be appreciate if you can explain it by using following simple example condition.

  • Satoshi-san,
In this example, you could look at it two ways.

    You could take a conservative approach and say 1A max * 10Vin = 10W.

    For a 1ms pulse, Figure 1 on the datasheet tells us a ZthJC value of ~ 0.15 * 0.4degC/W = 0.06degC/W.

    So 10W * 0.06 degC/W = a 0.6degC temperature increase.

However, you could also say (probably more accurately) that the average current is only 0.5A for this 1ms duration, and using that, get 5W, and 0.3deg temp increase.
