LM3435: Can LM3435 provide LED current less than 20mA?

Part Number: LM3435

Dear TIer :

From the datasheet of LM3435, there is no minimum current of LED listed on the ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS table.
But there is a formula on page 19 which indicates the relation between the minimum current of LED and the inductor value.

Can LM3435 provide LED current less than 20mA?  Should we select the inductor value according to the formula 11?
As you know, if we calculate the inductor value according to the formula 11 on page19, the inductor value is really very big if the ILED(MIN) is 20mA?

  • Hello,

I will notify the expert on this device to see if he has any other input, but from what I gather from the datasheet the device should operate in CCM with a minimum peak-to-peak inductor current ripple of 300mA. As far as I can tell that sets your minimum output current(s), but he will correct me if I am wrong.

    Regards,

    Clint

  • Hi there,

LM3435 was designed for nominal 500 mA to 2 A output. I don't think it could be used for < 500 mA no matter how large the inductor value is being used. However, you might be able to do 20 mA output using I2C content scale-down.

    Thanks!
