    Hi,

    Main purpose of this is a protection to prevent boost input voltage lower than ground level not to break boost components(ex. switching FET). If boost switching causes very high ripple, negative voltage can happen by ringing.

    Another one is for the case that Vin is connected in opposite polarity from input connector. In this case, this diode can minimize voltage difference between positive and ground node.
