BQ25703A: bq25703A / Total input current when Q1 and Q4 are turned off (FORCE_LATCHOFF = 1)

Part Number: BQ25703A

Hi,

Now my customer is asking the total input current when Q1 and Q4 are turned off by setting FORCE_LATCHOFF. They are considering the situation that the system is powered by battery though VBUS is plugged. This situation should be considered to prevent to load from USB port at USB suspend.

So can you specify or give any information the total input current when Q1 and Q4?

Best Regards,

Satoshi / Japan Disty

  • If they really want to reduce the input current, they can set charger to HIZ mode that can stop most charger function and get small input current.
FORCE_LATCHOFF could turn off Q1 and Q4. But, REGN and most charger function still active. So, the current is heavy than HIZ mode. I cannot find the leakage current number in HIZ mode. But, it should be very small from input side.
  • Hi Wang,

Let me continue to discuss about input leakage current in HIZ mode. I'd like to know the total input leakage current (maybe IACP+IACN+IVBUS) in HIZ mode.

Regarding IBAT_BATFET_ON in DS page 10, do you think this condition is in HIZ mode? I'm not sure if this is in HIZ mode because there is not commented about ILIM_HIZ pin or REG0x35[7]. But I'd like to refer this leakage current as leakage at HIZ mode if this is for HIZ mode.

  • Hi Wang,

I measured total input current at HIZ mode as attached. I guess that it's increased at higher input voltage than Vbat because the input source of internal LDO is switched to Vin. Now I'd like to know if LDO can be disabled at HIZ mode or input source of LDO can be forced from Vbat.

  • Thank you very much for the measurement. Even, I don't have such detail. You are correct the current increasing at Vin>Vbat is caused by the input source of internal LDO switching to Vin. HIZ mode should give the lowest quiescent current from the input. I don't think we can disable further function or internal reference from HIZ mode.
