My customer, really needs to work up to and include 32V on the BQ24650. The ABS MAX is rated at 33V. He plans on clamping the input at 32.1VDC (should never see more than 32VDC for extended periods) is this OK?

We have ACOV voltage of 32V internally set. If the input voltage is above 32V (31V-33V), the charger will enter input voltage protection, and stops charging. The description is on page 15 in the datasheet.

Like other switching mode charger, the 33V max of input is the max input voltage without damaging the part.

1) we can see 5V-28V Input Solar Panel from the pg1 and pg4 of d/s. This 28V considers the input voltage and phase node voltage might have some spike and ring.

2) Also we can see 32V (+/-1V) input voltage protection in pg5, beyond this voltage, the charger will be disabled.

The customer method does not work.

Without a firm 32V min operating range this would be hard to work with.

MIL STD 1275D power runs upto and includes 32VDC operation.

Do you have any 40V parts that would work in this process? Or at least 32VDC?

bq246xx uses 40V silicon. It sets 32V (+/-1V) OVP because the maximum BTST voltage is close to 40V (Vin+6V gate drive voltage).

Sorry, bq246xx can not guarantee that 32VDC input.
