TPS563200: Output spike when touched / Part toasted

Part Number: TPS563200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS562200

Hello,

We have designed a board using the TPS563200 regulator. The board performs within spec until you touch the VFB  pin or the resistors associated with it. I read that some early silicon had this issue, but my parts from Digikey purchased this May seem to be affected as well.

I was wondering if there are any official TI errata sheets or documents describing the issue. I couldn't find any. I would also like to ask you if there is any information that could be gatherer from Digikey's label that would allow you to identify the batch and determine if is affected.

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

There should be no damage issues for the silicon produced recently. You could read the IC manufacture date from the top marking as shown below.

For TPS562200, when FB and VBST(boot cap) is touched together, it is possible that the output voltage level will be interfered due to the voltage coupling from VBST to FB. Please track your IC production date and let me know if you could repeat the burnt out when finger touched on other IC you got. You could send you schematic and layout to my email anthony-lang@ti.com to review. Thanks!

    Best,

    Anthony
