UCC28600: LM5023 Vs UCC28600

Part Number: UCC28600
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5023

Hi,

Would you please help me out to get the best one out of two parts UCC28600 and LM5023?

Design requirement:

Vin : 85V AC to 305V AC

Vout: 5V

Iout : 4 Amps.

I can see hardly any difference between these two although I have not gone in much details yet. Both seems to be suitable in my application.

Could you list out differences/deciding factors between two that will help me to get better one.

Thanks

Ashish Rai

  • Hi Ashish, you are correct that as Quasi Resonant Flyback controllers, the two controllers are similar from a top level.

    There are (not major) differences around;

    • The no-load power performance (because the LM5023 can disable the high voltage startup through a FET and has sleep modes in the IC it can achieve lower no load power.
    • The switching frequency in light load ( the UCC28600 reduces the frequency as load decreases, before going into burst mode, the LM5023 does not)
    • Package size
    • Differences in the over current protection

    Hope this helps

    Thanks

  • Hi Billy
    Thanks for the information.
    I want your opinion on few points listed below;

    1. LM5023: "If OV is detected on the auxiliary winding (QR pin), the device permanently latches off, requiring recycling of power to restart.
    but UCC28600 does not have latch off in any situation. Is that Correct? I will prefer to go with auto restart feature.
    2. UCC28600 having minimum and maximum both Frequency clamp feature but LM5023 does have only maximum Frequency clamp feature. Please provide some information regarding this. Why lower Frequency clamp not needed with LM5023?
    3. LM5023 datasheet states about load and line regulation less than 1% but I did not find line and load regulation value in UCC28600 datasheet. Please confirm.
    4. If LM5023 requires recycle of power off to start again, please suggest an equivalent device of LM5023 considering low standby power.

    Thanks
