Hi,

I am using BQ27520-G4 fuel gauge with my i.MX6D processor based design. Unfortunately, we were facing issue during battery calibration. We are using Panasonic 18650 3.7V 3400mAh Rechargeable Li-ion Battery in our design. During the calibration process, our both BQ27520-G4 fuel gauge EVK kit got damaged during learning cycle process. From the second EVK, we were able to fetch the Golden file for our product but EVK is not working now. And with the available golden file, we are getting random misbehaviour (Voltage Vs %) on our system. We have also tried with other battery but the behaviour is same.

Could you please help us to solve this issue?

In the second option, I was thinking to replace Fuel gauge with new auto calibrate gauge.

Hi Mrudang

Sorry to hear that you are having challenges using our gauge. There is a general flow to using the gauge. i have listed it below, let me know if any section needs to be elaborated upon.

-The first step is to identify your chem id for your battery using the toool in the link below. The tool has detailed instructions on what to do.

-the next step would be to program the identified chem id, configure the data flash of your gauge for your application and then perform calibration.

-subsequently, perform a learning cycle following the app note below. Your gauge in question is a system side gauge.

-finally, extract your golden file upon completion of your learning cycle. If you have followed this process but are still having issues, do well to send over a log file , an srec and a gg file.

Hi Onyx.

We have already performed a learning cycle following the app note which you have provided. Right now we do not have working EVK with us. I will share you log file , an srec and a gg file which ever i have dumped in my application.

Do you have any other Fuel gauge with auto calibration functionality?

Hi Onyx,

Please find attached Original_Genrated_File.zip which is generated from learning cycle. I have also attached Modified_File.zip which contain change on Golden file with reducing a back-up capacity of the battery from 500mAh to 0mAh (total battery capacity is 3400mAh).

Hi Mrudang,
Can you attach a gg file as well. I wouldn't want to program your srec on my device for fear that it could brick my board if it is doing that on your board. Can you verify what firmware version of ev2300 you are using?

I am not sure i understand what you mean by auto calibration functionality. If you completed learning successfully, our gauges continually learns the battery's qmax and resistance.

pls install bqstudio. The dashboard of bqstudio will show you what version of ev2300 fimware you are using. it should be 3.1m or 3.1r .
v0.09.92 is the bqEVSW version number

Hi Mrudang,

Here is how I suggest you proceed.
-Get a functional board , extract an srec and then program that srec on another board using bqstudio. This will let us know you can successfully extract and program an srec without any issues.
-Next extract the srec from your device that successfully learned and then try programming that on another device. I wouldn't want you using the srec that has been bricking your other devices. Make sure to click the execute command after programming to put the gauge back in firmware mode from ROM mode then let me know how that goes.

Thanks for the support.

In that case, I need to purchase new EVK kits and retry the calibration again, right?
Is there any possibility we can change current scenario with changing .gg or golden file. Is there any other way?

My thought is that your golden file somehow got corrupted and that is what is bricking your chips. Do you have any functional board at the moment? Can you try programming the default srec and extracting it again so we make sure there is nothing in your programming and extraction process causing your srec to get corrupted?
