WEBENCH® Tools/TPS40210: WEBENCH Issue

Part Number: TPS40210
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

WEBENCH will create the following design without an issue:

Vin: 9V to 12V

Vout: 60V

Iout: 500mA

The issue comes when you try and simulate Startup. It is not able to actually startup. It seems to me that it is reaching current limit. The question I have is why would WEBENCH create the design, but is not able to simulate that the proposed application will actually work.

Is there a way that the design can be changed so that it will actually be able to be simulated? My customer needs some assurance that the part will actually work in the application.

Thanks for your help with this issue.

  • Hi Richard,

I believe you are referring to the same case that has been discussed off line through emails in the past few days, which was forwarded to us by TI colleagues. According to our Webench expert. Below is his reply:

"The default design from WEBENCH for the design conditions works fine. Only issue is the stop time in the startup (~6ms) is lower than the actual startup time (~7ms). So, you can export to TINA-TI and then increase simulation time to around 7ms and this should give you the final settled Vout of 60V. I have attached the working TINA schematic file for your reference."

Somehow the customer got a different Webench design from what we got with the same input conditions. The design that we got should work.

    Best Regards,

  • Youhao,

I did my own design and saw the issue so I do not believe that there was an issue with the download.

I do understand that the startup time was only 6ms in the simulation in WEBENCH. Is there anyway that this could be extended so that I could show the customer that there was no issue. I looked for a way to extend the startup time and did not find anyway to change the simulation parameters. Let me know if there is a way to do this.

Thanks for your help with this!
