BQ34Z100-G1: Golden Image, Update Status and Max Error

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

We are using a BQ34Z100-G1. The pack is a 6S 18650 LION configuration. The pack went through a learning cycle and the update status made it to 06 and the Max Error is 1%. A golden image .srec file was exported.

When programming the .srec into new units, the Max Error changes to a large negative number, usually -112%.

My questions are:
1. Does this happen because the Update Status was not reset to 02 before making the golden image?
2. If the Update Status is set to 02 before making the golden image, what process needs to occur on the production packs? I understand that the IT enable command needs to be sent. Is any cycling needed on the production packs to move the update status back to 06 or will that occur from normal pack use? Do we even need to worry about the update status in the production packs?
3. Slight change of topic - For the golden image, it was suggested to reset the cycle count back to 0. Is this for both the Count under Gas Gauging and the Count under Configuration?

Thanks,

Cary

  • Hi Cary,
    1. That could be possible, though i am not certain that is the cause. To be on the safe side, follow the instructions of setting it to 02 and see if the issue persists.
    2. After programming your golden file which has update status of 02, send the IT command (0x21). This will enable impedance track and cause update status to go from 02 immediately to 06. You do not need to do any cycling.
    3. Yes.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

Thank you for the clarification on the procedure. The Max Error stayed at 1% and the update status changed to 06 once IT was enabled..

    Best Regards,

    Cary
