TPS92515HV: TPS92515HV damaged during Lighting ON Test

Part Number: TPS92515HV

Hello,

Customer made TPS92515HV circuit based on Webench simulation.

But during Lighting ON test, some IC got damaged.

So, she wants to get schematic and PCB layout Review from TI.

Could you review attached schematic and PCB layout, and let me get the result?

Also attached used LED spec sheet.

Regards,

Nicky

  • Hello Nicky,

Could you let me know what the input voltage used is?

My concern is the UVLO setting using the PWM pin. It looks like it is set to turn on at a very low voltage even though the LED stacks look to be 48V stacks. You don't want to start switching until you exceed the LED stack voltage at the input ideally. Another concern is that at full input voltage (I'm assuming >48V) you will be exceeding the abs max voltage of the PWM pin which could cause damage.

    Regards,

    Clint

  • Hi Clint,

Input Voltage is 50.5V and Ruvlo resistor value selected by attached webench.

Is there any mistake in Webench file?

Could you recommend Ruvlo resistor value?

    Regards,

    Nicky

  • Hello Nicky,

Webench doesn't always pick the ideal values for everything, and I'm not sure setting UVLO is even an option or not. But in any case I would probably set the UVLO around 48V or something like that. A 2.2k for the lower resistor and a 102k for the upper resistor would set it at 48V.
