BQ24617 leakage current higher than spec?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24617

post for Richard

We were trying to determine all sources of off current drain in our device and found that the BQ24617 was drawing ~65uA.
According to the BQ spec we were only expecting 15uA max.
Can you tell us if there is something that we missed from the spec?   I've attached our schematic for your reference.

This is how we measured the 65uA.

1.  Set battery power supply to 7.4V.  Apply to device battery terminal.
2. Measure Total battery current (with device off), no charger attached.
3.  Remove BQ24617 from device.
4. Measure Totatl battery current
5. Delta current is ~65uA

  • With the the IC soldered in board, there are some additional current path might form. A obvious one for your case is the leakage current though the gate drive resistor of BATFET to through /BATDRV pin to GND (BATFET is ON at your test condition). And the REF and REGN is zero with the IC in sleep mode.

You can remove the gate resistor of BATFET and tie REF anf REGN to GND to retest it.
