BQ25504: Schematic with MPPT to micro controller.

Part Number: BQ25504

I am using the BQ25504 and would like an example diagram of how to use the MPPT function with a micro controller.

Also with use of the MPPT function the first 16 seconds after an input power is present there is no output until the ref voltage is sampled. I need the BQ25504 to output some power as soon as voltage is present at the input.  Is there a way to get around this?

Thanks

  • Hi,
There is no output power until the device exits Cold Start which is when VSTOR > 1.77V.

  • Hi,

Is there a way to shorten the time or get around the cold start?

Also once the battery is charged to above the VBAT_UV voltage will the BQ25504 stay in the Main boost charger mode even if the input power source is disconnected/lose power then reconnected?  or does the the cold start cycle have to start again even if Vstor remains above VBAT_UV?

    Thanks,

    James

  • Hi,
There is no way to get around cold start. The time this process takes depends on the input voltage and current. Once the battery voltage is above VBAT_UV, the FET between VBAT and VSTOR is on. This means that as long as the battery is above VBAT_UV, you wont have to go through cold start again if the input is turned on and off.
