BQ24780S: About the short circuit protection registers

Regarding to the short circuit protection on BQ24780S,my customer is asking some question.

They are using BQ 24735 on their application and they will use BQ24780S on new product.

 

(Question)

(1) About short circuit protection registers on internal FET,

<BQ24735

 IFAULT_HI:ChargeOption[8] POR 750mV

 IFAULT_LOWCahrgeOption[7] POR 135mV

<BQ24780S

 HSFET VDS Threshold(IFAULT_LOW):ChargeOption3[7] POR Disable

 LSFET VDS Threshold(IFAULT_LO):ChargeOption3[6] POR 250mV

 

They will use as POR on BQ24735 and will use as POR on BQ24780S similarly.

Also they will use default value in IFAULT_HI/LOW on BQ24735,

and will use default value in HSFET/LSFET VDS Threshold on BQ24780S similarly.

In this case, is there any problem or concern?

    (2) About the hybrid power boost mode on BQ24780S
    Is it same as turbo boost mode on BQ 24735?
    (3)Comparing with BQ24735’s registers and BQ24780S's registers,
    Are there any registers that do not exist in BQ24780S?
    *They will use BQ24780S as new circuit.

  • 1. I don't have any concern on bq24780S and bq24735 FET short protection. bq24780S gives a higher default protection value.
    2. a. bq24780S has flexible boost mode transition time by different "Fast DPM Deglitch Time" register bit setting.
    b. bq24780S allows the boost mode operation with >1.5A Iin-dpm setting, instead of bq24735's >2A Iin-dpm setting.
    3. bq24780S should have all bq24735 registers.
