UCC27712: UCC27712

Part Number: UCC27712
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21520, LM9061, UCC27714

Hi all,

My customer want to use High-side Driver without no additional aux.bias voltage such like UCC35xx.

And he checked at UCC27712 spec and said  Lo-side FET is required outside.

He said, another maker added small Lo-side FET in the driver, so that it can be used as High-side Driver with boot-strap only.

Do you have any solution ?

Thank you,

  • Hello Hiroshi,

Thank you for your support of the TI drivers with your customer. I am an applications engineer with TI and will work to answer your questions.

The typical application of the half bridge drivers with the high side boot strap bias does require the HS or SW node to transition to the ground reference to charge the bootstrap capacitor. Typically this is the low side switch turn on in a H bridge configuration.

In principal you could use a small switch just for the purpose of transition the SW node to ground for the purpose of charging the boot strap supply. Depending on the power train configuration, this low side switch will normally conduct the power train current as well, there may not be a way to avoid this.

To suggest a high side driver only and provide the bias, can you provide the details of the voltage rating required on the driver, does it require the 600V rating?

Also can you provide the topology the customer is using? Is it high side buck with freewheeling diode?

  • Richard-san,

App is charging power conditioner (industrial).

Customer can not show me the cct.

And I proposed UCC21520 for isolated DCAC today.

And also LM9061 for high voltage Li-ion charging.

But if their High-side needs is MPPT boost, there is no choice.

    They will use FAN7371.

And I posted another E2E  600VDC input problem ( another customer)

If customer have 600Vin DCDC or DCAC, I think no choice. Because no answer for above posted.

If you have good IC choice, it is helpfull, but customer pleased to use FAN7371 so TI IC should be cheaper by digikey price.

    Thank you

  • Hello Hiroshi-san,
For the drivers TI has available with the 600V rating for the high side drive, the UCC27712, UCC27714 are the monolithic devices. The UCC21520 (family) as well as UCC53xx and ISO53xx are the high voltage isolated drivers available.
With the high voltage rating of 600V or above, we do not have any devices that have the internal charge pump for the high side drive.
There is the option of having a floating bias for the high side drive which is common for the isolated drivers, and can be used with the UCC2771x 600V drivers.
