BQ34Z100-G1: Slow to report current at low currents

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

Hello

We are using the BQ34Z100-G1  as the fuel gauge in a Li-Ion battery management system.

Our test team have reported that the fuel gauge is slow to report current at low values - it can take up to 30 seconds to report when current is less than 10A.

Current reporting is instantaneous at higher currents (i.e. 30A).

Our Micro-controller firmware interrogates the fuel gauge once every second, which I believe to be the maximum refresh rate of the fuel gauge.

Can anyone suggest what the cause of this issue may be?

Thanks

  • Hi Dan,
The gauge updates current once per second. So you can't expect to read any faster. It shouldn't take 30 seconds to update current. Are you verifying that the gauge is taking that long using a multimeter. Do you have an EVM on hand to determine if it shows the same behavior? This will help narrow down where the problem is from

    thanks
