Energy Harvesting Components

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25570, BQ25505, BQ25504

Hi,

I'm very new to energy harvesting. I'm a photovoltaics researcher and would like to validate the recharging ability of a solar cell.

How do I build the proper circuit to provide power to BLE beacon as to minimize the drain on the battery?

Thanks,

  • Hi James,
To get started, you can look at EVMs for devices like the BQ25570 and the BQ25504. Both devices have an integrated boost converter to increase the charging voltage. Both devices have a cold start voltage of 330mV. This means that your Energy Harvester has to have a minimum open circuit voltage of 330mV for the IC to harvest its energy. The BQ25570 also has a configurable Buck at the output to power a load. The load on the BQ25504 is connected to the battery. You can also look at the BQ25505 if your application required a primary and secondary cell. you can also look through the datasheet of these devices for further explanation of how they work.
