BQ24295: Charge Timer Expiration - is this value resetable

Part Number: BQ24295

Hi All

Customer is asking about changing this value for regression testing, is there a way to change the timer for a much shorter interval?

From Customer

Is there way on the BQ24295 to access the "Charge Timer Expiration" value? It's referenced in the data sheet in REG09 CHRG_FAULT.

Currently only an interrupt is sent if the timer is reached.

We're doing some regression testing on the charger IC, having access the timer value would be of use to us for testing instead of waiting for the 12 hour timer to expire and an interrupt being sent.

Thanks

Jeff

  • Jeff,
If I understand the question correctly, the customer wants to know the timer counting value during the regression testing. The timer value can't be accessed.

  • Hey Jeff,

In regards to your customer's question:

Are they looking for the real-time count of the safety timer?

Based on your initial comment, they want to change the time if would take to perform this regression testing. Does the testing rely on the Charge Timer Expiration status indication, the INT pulse, or neither?

One option the bq24295 has is to change the safety timer is through REG05 down to the lowest of 5hr. Additionally, there is also a 4hr safety timer expiration if you are charging in the precharge region, or anywhere below VBAT < VBATLOWV.

Apart from that, there is no other way to get this time.

  • Customer here :)

This helped our question. We ended up just changing to 5 hours as you suggested and found the answer we were looking for.

    Cheers!
