TPS23861: What happens if TPS23861 does not add digital isolation to drive iso 7341

Now the customer wants to open the POE switch case. The current model is TPS23861, but there is an isolation drive in the reference design. From the cost considerations, the customer does not want to drive ISO7341. Excuse me, if you do not add isolation drive, what problems will arise

Hi,

Do you mean the digital isolator for I2C lines? Will customer use I2C communication between MCU and TPS23861? TPS23861 has autonomous mode that can operate without I2C communication. Thanks.

Yes, it's digital segregation. What would happen if the customer needed an I2C newsletter without digital isolation? Or to recommend the customer use digital isolation？

Hi

For better system system design consideration we usually suggest isolation be added to the system. I have seen one customer didn't have isolation on the I2C bus and the lightning surge damaged their MCU circuit. Thanks.
