TPS4H160-Q1: Some questions

Part Number: TPS4H160-Q1

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask TPS4H160-Q1

<Question1>
The datasheet shows "Nominal dc load curren" is 2.5A.
Does it mean it is possible to use 2.5A per CH? Or total?
We think as follows;
 I^2×Ron = 2.5 × 2.5 × 0.16=1W
So, as power dissipation, it prefers to be less than 1W.
As the result, 2.5A means total current value, right?

<Question2>
Is it possible to use ST pin as power good status?

<Question3>
About Fault pin, when it is satisfied the condition of any output fault, will this pin operate?

<Question4>
In case of events which corresponds to diagnostic fucntion, do each outputs stop?
– Overcurrent and Short-to-Ground Detection
– Open-Load and Short-to-Battery Detection
– Global Fault Report for Fast Interrupt

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hello,

    1- Yes it is 2.5A per channel but you need to take in consideration the power dissipation and the ambient temperature. For example one channel carrying 2.5A, the power is 0.15 x (2.5)² = 0.94W. With the standard junction to ambient of 32.7C/W, the junction temperature will be at 30.65C higher than the ambient. If 4 channels are loaded 2.5A, the junction will be at 122C higher than the ambient.

    2- ST pin reports any fault conditions for the corresponding channel. Usually power good status is used in regulated DC/DC converters is low when the output is out of tolerance. High side power switch if the output voltage drops but no fault, the ST stays high.
    Datasheet Table 2 in page 22 shows the detail

    3- FAULT is for B version and it is global. It is acting the same way as the ST in version A.
    Datasheet Table 2 in page 22 shows the detail

    4- Output does not stops. It stops only if input signal IN is low (auto recovery). Output stops (latch off) only in thermal shutdown if THER pin is high
