LM5121: LM5121

Part Number: LM5121
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5122, LM5170

I am trying to find a booster from 24 to 50 V DC with an output current up to 15A. Even though the LM5121 can support up to 20A the webench  is only allowing me to use 4A output current. Any suggestions?

  • Hi Abed,

The LM5122 can be used and is very similar to the LM5121. The best option for this is going to be to use multiple phases to achieve the desired output current and high output power. 4 phase operation is probably going to be the best option for this high power design. The easiest way to do the design is to used WEBENCH to design a single phase. For this case it is going to be and output current of 5A per phase. Also try dropping the ambient temperature to -30C to help with MOSFET selection. This will help get the design started.

Another option is to used the LM5170 in boost only configuration. This using this IC two phases could be used, but each phase will have large components due to the high current of this design.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
