BQ40Z50-R2: upgrading from bq40z50-r1

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50-R1,

Hello,

i just discover the availability of R2, carryng some new interesting features and I understand some improvements.

We have a product currently using bq40z50-R1, and have PCB in stock ready for pack assembling already made with this device.

Since i understand that R2 is pin to pin compatible with R1, is there maybe the possibility of upgrading bq40z50-R1 to the new R2 just by uploading a proper firmware through a SREC or so ?

Thanks in advance

Pietro

  • Hi Pietro,
Yes that is the case. It is just a matter of getting a new srec with your configurations and programming on the IC.
    thanks

  • Thanks Onyx,

    this is a good news.

    I have two scenarios:

    1. PCBs already manufactured, programmed with90% of correct DF settings and individually calibrated.

Does TI offer a method to upload a new complete SREC with the new firmware, saving the actual calibration settings and some other data burned in the DF such as some Manufacturer data bytes, and the chem ID signature ?

    2. Packs working in the field: is there a method to just updated the device firmware, leaving unchanged all the DF settings written in 0x4000–0x5FFF ? In such case we could arrange a separate tool using the WriteBlock functions of the bqxxxx.ocx control to upgrade the settings introduced with the bq40z50-R2 upgrade.

    Please let me know
    Thanks

  • Hi Pietro,
Yes we do. You will have to contact your local TI FAE to drive this effort with our team as it isn't trivial and we the team has limited band width. Do you have a local FAE or TSR that calls on you?

    thanks
