UCC28070: Scream and PF value improvement

Part Number: UCC28070

Hi experts,

I have a customer who has questions as below, your help will be highly appreciated.

In the input AC 800hz, I used UCC28070 to do a PFC.And in the input voltage 264Vac, output power is 500W, pf value is only 0.9, in the mean time, a loud scream could be heard, I would like to improve the PF value, and I want to know how to reduce the scream? In what ways should we improve?

And the ucc28070 Is suitable for applications where the input frequency is 800hz? If so, is there a reference design with high frequency input?

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

  • Hello Jenny,

Screaming is always a bad thing and in this case is also a call for help.

I can review the design if you wish to email me the design requirements, schematic and bill of material and any test data showing switching waveforms

Acoustic noise (or screaming) is usually associated with the inductor design and the customer should review the inductor specifications.

It may also be that the power supply is going into current limit or the current sensing transformers are having issues.

The UCC28070 has been tested at input frequencies up to 800Hz but as yet we do not have a reference design published.
